NLS Congress: The great secret of psychoanalysis unveiled in Athens

The prestigious ceremonial hall of the University of Athens was packed on Saturday May 18, for the opening of the XIth Congress of the NLS. More than 400 participants worked during two days on the theme of "the psychotic subject in the geek era", in a friendly and studious atmosphere. More than sixty papers were in the program. Without much respite, participants, speakers, chairpersons and discussants brought to life, during this weekend, the results of the research on psychosis carried out throughout the year within the New Lacanian School, following Eric Laurent's invitation last year in Tel Aviv.

Should we mourn because the modern subject relates increasingly to technological gadgets which he enjoys in an autistic mode? Neither bio-catastrophic nor techno-prophet, as noted by François Ansermet, the orientation of the papers rather showed how psychoanalysis allows the subject to reinvent his subjective position before the real of the non-relation. The information flooding us from the internet does not deliver the solution to the sexual equation. On the contrary, it is by progressively sifting the mode of jouissance of the symptom in art, in a way of life or, for us, in the analytic experience, that a way out emerges to "go beyond the solitude of the One" -as shown particularly by the beautiful session of the AS chaired by Anne Lysy and Miquel Bassols, with Bruno de Halleux and Marie-Hèlène Blancard.

In the NLS, perhaps more than in other Schools of the WAP, the dynamic of the Congress are inseparable from the construction of the School as such. We have seen to what degree a School of psychoanalysis is equivalent to the sum of the analyses of its members, and how it is thus built in a constant work-in-progress. Moreover, the members of the NLS gathered on Friday afternoon to hold their first Conversation of the School, chaired by Jacques-Alain Miller. From a careful reading of the preparatory report, J-A Miller closed down some illusory doors and opened up some promising ones! The question of the guarantee in the School, the clinical debate in the form of a Conversation for a greater rigor in the construction of the cases, the place of the instances nominated by the WAP, or even the question of the pass, the cartels and the formation of the psychoanalyst, were debated in a clarifying atmosphere where the issue of trust was central.

The climax was reached on Sunday afternoon when, chaired by Alexandre Stevens, and following the remarkable intervention of Yves Vanderveken -vice-president of the NLS-, Jacques-Alain Miller took the floor to give impetus to the next Congress under the title: the Other without Other. Based on the imminent publication of Book VI of The Seminar of Jacques Lacan "Desire and its interpretation", he revealed, before a captivated audience, the great secret of psychoanalysis, opening multiple pathways for our next Congress in Ghent on 17th and 18th May 2014. We are already working on the transcription.

The Congress committee, under the guidance of Epaminondas Theodoridis in Greece, and the involvement of the Executive Committee of the NLS, worked hard to make this congress a great success for psychoanalysis. I extend my warmest greetings and thanks to them and to all the participants who, each in their own way, gave the best of themselves to produce the-formation-effect -always aside-, implied by the analytic experience. 

At the end of this Athenian weekend, appointment was given on 6 & 7 July in Brussels, for the PIPOL Congress of the EuroFederation of Psychoanalysis!

La prestigieuse salle des cérémonies de l’université d’Athènes était comble ce samedi 18 mai pour l’ouverture du XIè Congrès de la NLS. Plus de 400 participants ont travaillé deux jours durant sur le thème du « sujet psychotique à l’époque geek » dans une ambiance chaleureuse autant que studieuse. 

Plus de soixante travaux étaient au programme. Sans beaucoup de répit, participants, intervenants, présidents de séance ou discutants ont fait vivre, un week-end durant, les résultats de l’enquête sur la psychose menée toute l’année dans la nouvelle école lacanienne, à l’invitation d’Eric Laurent à Tel-Aviv.  

Fallait-il s’affliger que le sujet moderne se relie toujours plus aux gadgets de la technologie dont il jouit sur un mode autistique ? Ni bio-catastrophique, ni techno-prophète, comme l’a souligné François Ansermet, l’orientation des travaux a bien plutôt montré comment la psychanalyse permet au sujet de réinventer sa position subjective face au réel du non-rapport.  Les informations inondantes d’internet  ne délivrent pas plus la solution de l’équation sexuelle. C’est au contraire en serrant toujours plus le mode de jouir du symptôme dans l’art, dans un style de vie et pour nous dans l’expérience analytique qu’une issue se dessine pour « outrepasser la solitude de l’Un » – comme l’a montré notamment la belle séquence des AE animée par Anne Lysy et Miquel Bassols, avec Bruno de Halleux et Marie-Hèlène Blancard. 

A la NLS, plus peut-être que dans d’autres Ecole de l’AMP, la dynamique du congrès est indissociable de la construction de l’Ecole comme telle.  On a vu combien une Ecole de psychanalyse équivaut à la somme des analyses de ses membres et que c’est ainsi dans un work-in-progress constant qu’elle s’échafaude. Les membres de la NLS s’étaient d’ailleurs réunis dès le vendredi après-midi pour tenir leur première Conversation d’Ecole, animée par Jacques-Alain Miller. A partir d’une lecture attentive du rapport préparatoire, J-A Miller a fermé quelques portes illusoires et en a ouvertes d’autres, prometteuses ! La question de la garantie dans l’Ecole, le débat clinique sous forme de Conversation pour une plus grande rigueur dans la construction des cas, la place des instances nommées par l’AMP ou  encore la question de la passe, des cartels et de la formation ont été débattues dans une ambiance clarifiante où la question de la confiance fut centrale. 

Le point d’orgue fut atteint dimanche après-midi où, sous la présidence d’Alexandre Stevens, et à la suite de l’intervention remarquée du vice-président de la NLS Yves Vanderveken, Jacques-Alain Miller prit la parole pour donner l’impulsion du congrès suivant sous le titre : l’Autre sans Autre.  S’appuyant sur la parution imminente du livre VI du Séminaire de Jacques Lacan « Le désir et son interprétation »,  il révéla, devant un public captivé, le grand secret de la psychanalyse, ouvrant de multiples voies pour le congrès de Gand des 17 et 18 mai 2014. Nous sommes déjà au travail de transcription.

La commission du Congrès, sous la houlette d’Epaminondas Theodoridis en Grèce, et l’implication du Comité Exécutif de la NLS, n’ont  pas ménagé leur peine pour faire de ce congrès un beau succès pour la psychanalyse. Je leur adresse mes remerciements les plus chaleureux ainsi qu'à tous les participants qui, chacune et chacun à leur façon ont donné le meilleur d’eux-mêmes pour produire l’effet-de-formation toujours à côté qu’implique l’expérience psychanalytique.
